Fashion Star @ H&M Week 5

April 12, 2012

I arrived bright and early to H&M on Wednesday morning to make sure I was able to grab Nikki’s maxi dress ($19.95) and to at least take a look at Sarah’s jacket ($29.95).

Nikki’s dress is a simple long maxi that features a v-neck crossover design at the chest. The belt is a nice touch because it accentuates the waist and gives the dress shape. The back of the dress also features a low back and tie across the top. The best feature, in my opinion, is the bold print. It is perfect for those wanting to test the waters and give prints a try because it is simple and not overwhelming.

In the photos, I am wearing a size 4 (my usual H&M size.) While it looks decent, it was a bit baggy. I decided to try out a 2. It looked much slimmer and fit a million times better. Two other gals also did the same as the smaller sizes worked better for them as well.

Nikki’s dress is available in two options: A navy/red and a navy/white. The red definitely caught my eye at first because of the bold mix of colors. After talking to many others, it seemed to be the more popular option.

I love that the dress can work well on so many different body types. While I of course need to make some alterations (for the length), I think it works so well for women of all shapes and sizes.

I also gave Sarah’s reversible turquoise/black jacket a shot. While the reversible feature was very cool, I did not find it special enough to buy. The jacket looked completely awkward open but terrible closed. I did not like how it sat “under” my chest. I think it would look much better on someone slimmer than me as my chest looks strange sitting “on top” of the flaps.

I really liked H&M’s buys this week -especially the maxi dress. Did any Fashion Star pieces catch your eye this week?
